The Spice RouteFrom Asia to EuropeThe word 'spice' evokes a sense of faraway places, pungent smells and fragrant foods. It also calls to mind the fascinating tale of the quest for ownership of the Spice Islands, which caused international conflicts and resulted in nations warring at sea and in their own parliaments. Harry Holcroft's beautiful paintings and sketches, together with his diary, convey the beauty of lands associated with spices, and the various means of travel along the Spice Route.
Holcroft visited over 20 different countries, capturing the simplest charm of each one and the various changes in patterns of light and ancient architecture in a collection of atmospheric images illustrating the magic of the Spice Route.
